Video Promoting Newtown Gaining Raves From Viewers By SANDY HEUCKROTH
July 24, 1997 Newtown Advance
Come to Newtown. It's a great place to live, to work, to raise a family, and to do business.
That's the message Newtown's Business Development Council hoped to give Bucks County new comers. Thanks to Video Gold Productions and the township's board of supervisors, the dream has come true.
A fast-paced 6-minute promotional video produced by Video Gold passes on the word loudly and clearly. Despite the film's brevity, the producers have managed to capture the many aspects of life that make the Newtown area unique. Beginning with a thumbnail history of Newtown, the video focuses on opportunities provided by the area's diversity of housing, business, culture and recreation. It promotes the township's services as well.
Belinda Buras said she and other members of the Business Development Council were impressed at the video's premiere showing. "I was very impressed with the quality. People sat up a little taller and said, 'Hey, that's my town," Buras said.
The video is now selling for $10 at the Newtown Township administration offices. According to Supervisor Jean Tanner, the township and Business Development Council hope to market the tape with Realtors and prospective business people. Tanner cited Lockheed Martin as an example of a corporation who purchased copies to acquaint its employees with the area to which they are relocating. Schools and retirement centers may wish to consider the same approach.
The Business Development Council was first created to foster communication between the local businesses and the township. In an attempt to attract more business, and to keep the business dollar within the township, the Business-to-Business Directory was created. Recognizing the difficulty of establishing a new business, the council created a step-by-step New Business Handbook to be provided with permits.
The Business Development Council began to venture outside the township, providing information to people looking for a place to relocate. The video, which will also be shown on cable, accomplished that objective. The project was cosponsored by the Newtown Township Board of Supervisors and the Business Development Council. The cost of producing the video was already an item in the township Development Council budget.
Credit for the production of the video goes to the township and Video Gold, who also tapes the township supervisors' meetings for cable television, Buras said.
"It makes folks who live here proud to live here. Come see where I live, what I stand for, what my community stands for. "Buras said. |
